January 25, 2012

Local officials are invited to meet with their legislators during nine free Legislative Breakfast Meetings that the MMA is sponsoring across the state in late February and early March.

The breakfast meetings will focus on local aid accounts in Gov. Deval Patrick’s fiscal 2013 budget recommendation and what the Legislature may do when it takes up the state budget in April and May.

MMA staff also will update local officials on the status of federal budget cuts approved set to take effect beginning in 2013.

Attendees will hear news on Chapter 90 bond legislation needed to support an April 1 notice for local road funding projects next year, as well as discussion about possible funding for other transportation, environmental and municipal capital projects.

Reforms made last year to laws governing public employee benefits, and prospects for future cost-containment legislation, also will be highlighted.

Local officials are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to describe the problems that communities face, discuss potential solutions, and address what can be done collaboratively to enhance the quality of life for residents and taxpayers.

The Legislative Breakfast Meetings will be held on the following Fridays, beginning at 8 a.m. with coffee and networking, and running until 10 a.m.:
