Judging
The MMA sets the criteria. Some of the standards are: project originality or novelty; adaptability to other communities; cost effectiveness; efficiency or productivity; addressing a common community issue; and consumer/community satisfaction. The judges, selected by MMA staff, have a strong background and interest in municipal issues. They may be former municipal officials, consultants, or professors.
What does winning this award offer municipalities?
This award allows a municipality to recognize an innovative program or project that has been established successfully in a community. It gives the municipality a chance to praise the hard work of employees or citizens who have implemented the program or project. This allows the municipality to share with other communities unique ideas to solving problems or establishing programs. The winning municipalities will be recognized through a local press release, articles in MMA publications, postings on the MMA website, and an overview at the MMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show. At the Annual Meeting, a booth is set aside to recognize the winners and display award-winning materials for others to view, concluding with a presentation of a plaque at the Awards Ceremony.
The awards are presented each year at the MMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show.
