This meeting will include a training session on changes to the state’s open meeting law, which take effect on July 1. The session will be led by Assistant Essex District Attorney Charles Grimes and a representative from the attorney general’s office.
The session will cover the following areas: posting of notices, conduct of meetings, executive sessions, recording and transmission of meetings, maintaining order, meeting minutes, and responses to alleged violations.
Statewide enforcement of the open meeting law, revised as part of last year’s ethics reform law, is being centralized in the attorney general’s office.
This is the sixth annual statewide meeting for council and board of aldermen presidents and vice presidents.
Other councillors and aldermen are also welcome to attend the dinner meeting.
This meeting is an opportunity for councillors and aldermen to network and explore public policy issues with colleagues, state leaders and MMA staff.
There is no fee for this event.
