Gov. Romney restores a portion of spending cuts
December 05, 2006With tax collections modestly exceeding expectations through the end of November, Gov. Mitt Romney on Dec. 1 restored some or all of the spending for 40 of the almost 500 accounts that he had cut in early November.
The governor restored a total of about $41 million in spending.
On Nov. 9, Romney used authority granted by Section 9C to reduce spending when revenues are projected to fall short of approved spending. His cuts were based on a tax estimate made at the end of October that showed a shortfall of $425 million between spending approved by the Legislature and expected revenues.
Included in the restored spending are the full $2.4 million cut from the special education “circuit breaker” reimbursement account and $1.1 million from the school finance hardship account.
