February 10, 2009

Local officials from across Massachusetts are invited to meet with their legislators during 10 free Legislative Breakfast meetings the MMA is sponsoring across the state this spring.

The meetings will bring together municipal officials and legislators to discuss issues affecting local communities, particularly fiscal 2010 budget issues. Many representatives and senators have committed to attending the breakfast meetings.

The meetings come in the midst of a statewide fiscal crisis and a change in the leadership of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In order to help communities navigate through the fiscal crisis, the MMA this spring is continuing its push for meaningful reforms that will increase municipal management authority, provide new sources of revenue, and offer administrative relief.

The Legislative Breakfast meetings will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on the following Fridays: Feb. 27 and March 6, 13 and 20. A March 6 meeting in Pittsfield will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
