Updated local aid estimates based on the fiscal 2011 state budget bill approved by the Senate last week are available at the Division of Local Services website.

With the exception of the regional public library and regional school transportation estimates, the final Senate budget estimates are the same as those for the Senate Ways & Means Committee proposal, according to the DLS.

A change to the appropriation language for the regional public library program would direct the Board of Library Commissioners to use the 1998 U.S. Census population figures to determine the estimates and would eliminate the regional reference center libraries. These provisions would change the estimate of regional public library aid to be received by several communities.

The estimates for charter school tuition assessments and reimbursements do not reflect the impact of outside Section 37 of the Senate Ways and Means proposal, since the final Senate budget would delay its implementation until fiscal 2012.

The DLS points out that charter school and school choice assessments may change significantly when updated to reflect spring enrollment data and final tuition rates.

Questions about the estimates may be directed to Lisa Juszkiewicz at (617) 626-2386, Jared Curtis at (617) 626-2320, or Donnette Benvenuto at (617) 626-2360.
