The Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development has opened the annual application period for its MassWorks Infrastructure program, which provides grants to communities to fund public infrastructure projects.

Municipalities can apply for funding for projects in the following areas:
• Mixed-use development (residential with commercial, retail and/or other development)
• Housing development (housing only)
• Economic development with job creation and/or retention (no housing)
• Small-town road improvement projects to enhance transportation safety (e.g., STRAP)

The MassWorks program places emphasis on the production of multifamily housing in appropriately located walkable, mixed-use districts that result in direct and immediate job creation and/or that support economic development in weak or distressed areas.

Since 2015, the MassWorks program has invested $456 million in public infrastructure projects and created more than 14,000 new housing units.

All Massachusetts municipalities and public entities are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Aug. 28.
