Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and the Department of Energy Resources have launched a new round of Solarize Mass and Solarize Mass Plus, programs intended to promote solar generation as a renewable energy source across Massachusetts.
Solarize Mass is a cooperative program whereby solar customers in a community or group of communities can aggregate their buying power to obtain competitive prices from solar installers. The program incorporates a community marketing campaign to encourage solar electricity system adoption by residents and businesses.
In the 2019 round, the MassCEC will provide grants of between $5,000 and $13,000 to eligible communities for marketing purposes. Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through April 17, or until program funds have been fully allocated.
The MassCEC and DOER aim to select up to 10 municipalities or groups of municipalities to participate in the new round of funding. To be eligible, municipalities must be serviced by a utility that pays into the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust.
In 2018, the following municipalities, individually or in groups, received Solarize Mass grants to create community marketing campaigns for solar adoption: Lowell; Springfield-Longmeadow; and Wellfleet-Eastham-Truro-Provincetown.
Solarize Mass Plus pairs the Solarize Mass program with additional green technology offerings, such as solar hot water or air source heat pumps.
