Gov. Baker, Sens. Warren and Markey, to address MMA Annual Meeting

Gov. Charlie Baker will address hundreds of mayors, selectmen, councillors, town managers and other local officials from across Massachusetts during the Opening Session of the MMA’s 39th Annual Meeting & Trade Show on Friday, Jan. 19, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
 
The governor is expected to discuss the outlines of the state budget bill that he will file several days later.
 
In addition, U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey will address officials during the MMA’s Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 20, part of the Annual Meeting & Trade Show.
 
The Opening Session begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and the Annual Business Meeting starts at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
 
Also attending the two-day conference, the largest regular gathering of municipal officials in the state, will be 

Congressman Michael Capuano and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.
 The conference will also feature 26 timely workshops covering topics such as economic development, municipal and labor law, recreational marijuana, climate change, social media, housing and zoning, the opioid crisis, municipal finance and budgeting, and intermunicipal agreements.
 
​The lineup of speakers includes author, filmmaker and mountaineer David Breashears as keynote, best-selling author Dennis Lehane as the Friday dinner speaker, award-winning columnist and political analyst E.J. Dionne as the closing speaker, and former Public Safety Secretary Andrea Cabral at the Women Elected Municipal Officials luncheon. The Annual Banquet on Saturday night will feature entertainment from renowned cover band Beatlejuice.
 
The Annual Meeting features individual business meetings specifically for mayors, councillors and aldermen, selectmen, and town managers. A new first-time attendee orientation will be held on Friday morning from 8 to 9 a.m.
 
The Trade Show will once again feature companies, professional associations, government agencies and other exhibitors that provide the latest products and services to assist communities. New at the Trade Show on Saturday will be five Learning Lab sessions – 30-minute overviews of important topics presented by exhibitors.
 
The Trade Show will be open on Friday, Jan. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
More than 1,100 local leaders attended the 2017 Annual Meeting & Trade Show, which featured 200 exhibitors.
 
This year’s Annual Meeting theme is “Together For a Stronger Future.”
