The town of Andover seeks applications from qualified candidates interested in serving as the town’s Animal Control Officer, Animal Inspector and a town Health Agent. Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, the Officer/Inspector performs specialized work in the enforcement of federal, state and municipal laws pertaining to the regulations and control of dogs and other animals. Duties include patrol town to maintain public safety, catch loose and wild animals in accordance with regulations, issue citations and ensure compliance, as well as appear in court as required. In addition, the Officer/Inspector investigates animal complaints, attends to injured animals and conducts kennel inspections. As the Animal Inspector, control and monitor rabies in the animal population, including assessing and reporting potential rabies cases.
Duties require a high school diploma with an associate’s degree in animal husbandry or science preferred, as well as at least two to four years of experience working with animals. Valid driver’s license required with firearms ID card preferred. Multiple certifications required including Certificate of Accreditation as an Animal Control Officer within six months of hire and maintained annually. Salary: $50K plus, commensurate with experience.
