Animal Control Officer (Evening Shift)

FLSA Non-Exempt, Public Safety Union, 40 hours per week. $27.177 – $28.795 for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)

Make a difference by protecting residents, rescuing and caring for animals, enforcing local and state laws and responding to emergencies involving pets, wildlife, and livestock.

  • Enforce all relevant state statutes and town laws relating to the control and regulation of animals
  • Ensure the safe return, care, and handling of residential animals
  • Provide protection to Norwood residents from annoyance, intimidation, irritation, and injury from animals
  • Investigate complaints and animal bites.
  • Enforce Massachusetts General Laws and town bylaws
  • Provide first aid and emergency assistance
  • Maintain records and reports
  • Perform related work as required

Minimum Requirements: *

  • High school education
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Possession of a license to carry firearms.
  • Ability to complete Animal Control Certification
  • Working knowledge of applicable Massachusetts General Laws and typical town bylaws governing the control and regulation of animals.
  • Working knowledge of canine, feline, and large animal behavior and diseases. Basic knowledge of animal husbandry and emergency veterinary procedures.
