Animal Control Officer (Evening Shift)
FLSA Non-Exempt, Public Safety Union, 40 hours per week. $27.177 – $28.795 for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)
Make a difference by protecting residents, rescuing and caring for animals, enforcing local and state laws and responding to emergencies involving pets, wildlife, and livestock.
- Enforce all relevant state statutes and town laws relating to the control and regulation of animals
- Ensure the safe return, care, and handling of residential animals
- Provide protection to Norwood residents from annoyance, intimidation, irritation, and injury from animals
- Investigate complaints and animal bites.
- Enforce Massachusetts General Laws and town bylaws
- Provide first aid and emergency assistance
- Maintain records and reports
- Perform related work as required
Minimum Requirements: *
- High school education
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
- Possession of a license to carry firearms.
- Ability to complete Animal Control Certification
- Working knowledge of applicable Massachusetts General Laws and typical town bylaws governing the control and regulation of animals.
- Working knowledge of canine, feline, and large animal behavior and diseases. Basic knowledge of animal husbandry and emergency veterinary procedures.
