The town of Weymouth has a challenging opportunity for an Assistant Assessor. Working under the general direction of the Principal Assessor/Appraiser, in accordance with the directives and policies of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, and in compliance with Massachusetts General Laws. Plans and performs operations, and independently completes assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule. Performs variety of clerical and administrative support functions and office work, including interaction with the public, answering telephones, taking messages, filing, typing, etc. Performs investigative research to compile all necessary figures and statistics for real and personal property, excise taxes, liens; commits same to Tax Collector.

Ensures that state required forms are filed with the Department of Revenue in a timely manner. Prepares all necessary information and inputs into tax billing system for each of the real estate tax billings. Inputs all property corrections and changes to the computer file; maintains valuation controls for tax billings, water liens and other betterments.

Participates in and oversees a variety of daily department tasks including motor vehicle and boat excise abatements, the filing of statutory exemptions, valuation abatements, and state reimbursement lists.

In order to be considered, the candidates must possess an associate’s degree with courses in business, finance and property assessment; five years progressively responsible experience in the real estate or appraisal field; supervisory experience strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Accredited Assessor certification (M.A.A.) required. Salary range is $63,994.10 to $78,872.45.
