Who is a member?
Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Calculates new growth, and submits information to the DOR. Conducts hearings, prepares applications for abatements or exemptions for review and approval; administers all property revaluation in accordance with state laws; Compiles information for annual tax rate computation. Maintains real property database, including conducting periodic data collection programs. Conducts assessment/sales ratio studies. Operates and maintains computer assisted state appraisal systems. Develops and implements in-house valuation systems. Processes deeds and property sub-divisions. Maintains Assessor’s tax mapping system. Administers local Motor Vehicle Excise Tax. Appears at, and defends, values for cases filed with Appellate Tax Board. Files required reports, maintains department records.
