The city of Methuen seeks an Assistant Assessor.

General statement of duties and responsibilities: Performs professional, administrative, and technical work and assists in the management of operations for the Assessor’s department. Responsibilities include assisting with the setting of property values in accordance with state and local regulations, assisting with the valuation of real estate and personal property within the municipality. Compiles data, performs field inspections, and related office support functions.

General knowledge, skills and abilities:  Knowledge of a variety of assessing principles, practices and techniques as they apply to valuing real estate and personal property.  Knowledge of the Mass. General Laws and local legal requirements and procedures affecting property valuation and tax assessment. Ability to use and understand maps, blueprints, legal descriptions and appraisal valuation tables and manuals.  Ability to establish and maintain impartial and effective relationship with taxpayers.

Educational requirements: Bachelor’s degree and/or MAA (Massachusetts Accredited Assessor) designation/desire to work towards an MAA, or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience as an Assistant Assessor or Licensed Appraiser. (see full description for additional requirements)

Salary: $1,104.79-$1,284.22 (weekly)
