The town of Westford is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time, salaried position of Assistant Building Commissioner. Under the general direction of the Building Commissioner, performs administrative, supervisory, and inspectional work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the State Building Code, local zoning ordinances, and the bylaws of the town of Westford. Conducts inspections, answers questions regarding code enforcement and structural requirements for the public, architects, contractors, and engineers. Enforces all other applicable rules and regulations. May be assigned the responsibilities of the Building Commissioner in their absence. Prepares zoning and general bylaw opinion forms under the direction of the Building Commissioner. High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by five years’ experience and specialized training in the construction industry or a two-year degree in a related field is required, or any equivalent combination of education and work experience that would qualify under 780 CMR to become certified as a local inspector may be accepted. (Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.) Must hold current or pending certification by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Board of Building Regulations and Standards as a Local Inspector or an Inspector of Buildings (preferred). Must be proficient with computers, including MS Office, GIS, email and online permitting programs. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude and strong organizational, writing, time management, customer service, and communication skills. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. The annual salary range is $75,189 to the high $80k’s and is based on education, certifications, and experience.
