The city of Somerville seeks an Assistant City Solicitor to join a general, broad municipal legal practice in a fast-paced, high-volume, collegial Law Department. Areas of focus include representing the city in various litigation venues including federal and state courts, labor and employment litigation. Responsible for legislative counseling, legal research, reviewing and responding to public records requests, contract review, among other municipal legal matters. Position requires specific knowledge and experience in the following areas of law: public sector labor and employment law; procurement law; municipal finance law; licensing and permits; zoning and land use; open meeting law; public records law; state ethics laws; G.L. c. 258 and 84, as well as ability to quickly understand the city charter, ordinances, rules and regulation, other state and federal laws, and the Board of Overseers rules, regulations and guidelines. Requirements: JD with five years related work experience, excellent research, writing and oral advocacy skills. Salary: $100,000-$106,120 plus benefits. Potential to grow salary to $137,278.57 through annual merit increases.
