Assistant City Solicitor

The city of Marlborough is seeking a full-time Assistant City Solicitor. The Assistant City Solicitor reports to the City Solicitor, and is responsible for advising the Mayor, City Council, city departments, boards, and commissions; conducting legal research; drafting and reviewing legal documents, including ordinances, regulations, contracts and agreements, memoranda of law, motions, pleadings, discovery, and other documents relating to litigation; representing the city in lawsuits filed in the various state and federal courts; preparing witnesses, conducting and appearing at depositions; consulting with the City Solicitor and with outside legal counsel; appearing before the City Council and the various boards and commissions of the city; Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, advising employees and elected officials on such matters as the state ethics, open meeting, and public records laws, city ordinances and regulations, and substantive areas such as bankruptcy, employment, municipal finance, the environment, public construction, eminent domain, municipal land use, and procurement. Assistant City Solicitor will be expected to attend occasional evening meetings.
