The town of Dartmouth has an immediate opening for an Assistant DPW Director. Working in collaboration and in close coordination with the DPW Director, plans, organizes, administers, coordinates, reviews and evaluates day to day activities of Public Works functions through multiple levels of management and supervision within the department. Provides administrative management support and oversight of all operational divisions including: Administration, Water and Sewer, Engineering, Highways, Solid Waste, and Construction. Assists with the preparation and administration of the departmental annual operating and capital budgets. Reviews department funding needs, formulates budget guidelines, and controls department service delivery within budgetary limits or policies. Assists with the oversight and administration of grants, develops or coordinates bid and RFP preparation, and prepares and negotiates contracts. Assists with the oversight of daily operations of each division, meets with superintendents, coordinates work activities and ensures that routine divisional tasks are performed in a timely manner. Works in collaboration with Director in establishing, implementing and managing department goals and specific objectives for the delivery of services and the internal management of the department. Assists the Director with the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of programs and service delivery in the department and recommends improvements to ensure high quality services are delivered within available resources. Prioritizes and allocates available resources for each of the divisions. Represents the Department of Public Works and maintains working relationships with the public, other town officials and state agency personnel. Serves as the Director in his or her absence.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field; six to seven years of progressively responsible experience in public works administration, including supervisory experience within public works, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license Massachusetts Professional Engineer License preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months. Water and Wastewater Certification preferred.

Salary range for this position: $87,338-$113,540
