SEARCH REOPENED: The town of Falmouth is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Health Agent. This position is responsible technical and inspectional tasks in the town’s Public Health Program. Enforces state sanitary code; performs site inspections of building lots; evaluates soil tests and percolation tests to determine suitability for sewage disposal facilities; inspects installation and repair of septic systems; works with installers and engineers to ensure that sewage disposal systems conform to requirements and function properly. Enforces state and local public health laws, rules and regulations; investigates and reports cases of diseases dangerous to public health. Handles assigned complaints and investigates alleged nuisances; investigates and initiates corrective measures to eliminate unsanitary living conditions; initiates legal action and appears in court as necessary. Inspects restaurants, food handling and processing establishments, nursing homes, group residences, child care centers, recreational camps for children, public pools and beaches, places of assembly, and other areas required by law. Bachelor’s degree in physical science, public health or related field; additional course work or master’s degree in public health desirable; two years in public health or comparable private sector experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of state and local regulations, food service regulations and all other laws, rules and regulations pertaining to public health. Working knowledge of principles and practices of subsurface disposal system design and installation. Working knowledge of current inspection and control procedures. Strong communication skills. Valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license. Registration as a state sanitarian within one year of employment required. Wage is $29.56 – $37.40/hr.
