The town of Barnstable is seeking to hire an Assistant Town Attorney to represent the town in legal proceedings and quasi-judicial or administrative proceedings before courts and regulatory agencies. The Assistant Town Attorney will be responsible for litigation, with a primary emphasis on land use and other regulatory matters, and will assist the Town Attorney in advising town employees and board and committee members on legal issues affecting the town. The successful candidate will possess a juris doctor degree, be admitted to practice in Massachusetts and admitted or eligible to practice in federal court; at least five years relevant legal experience, including at least three years of litigation experience or equivalent. Real estate, land use and government experience, particularly at the municipal level, preferred. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, possess excellent judgment and have strong research and writing skills. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task. May be required to attend Town Council and other night meetings.
