The town of Barnstable Engineering Division has a staff of 25, including five Professional Engineers, two architects, GIS, an in-house survey crew, project managers and inspectors. We are currently planning and designing unprecedented infrastructure projects in the areas of water supply and wastewater treatment and disposal. In the area of highways, we expend approximately $5-6 million to maintain and reconstruct a network of 450 miles of public roads and are in the process for planning a new drawbridge. With coastlines on two sides of town, we have a robust marine engineering program that addresses an annual dredging program and maintains bulkheads on three major harbors. Municipal engineering in Barnstable provides a broad variety of projects and challenges and reaches all disciplines from civil to environmental, coastal, marine, transportation, construction management and solid waste. This is a fast-paced environment with significant opportunity for growth and professional satisfaction for the right candidate.

The town of Barnstable (population 45,000) is made up of seven distinct villages, each with their own unique character: Barnstable, Centerville, Cotuit, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Osterville and West Barnstable. In addition, Barnstable is considered the “hub” of Cape Cod with the largest healthcare facilities, retail shopping centers and major transportation operations including the Barnstable Municipal Airport, Cape Cod Regional Transportation Authority that offers bus service, the Steamship Authority that provides passenger and freight services to the Islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Barnstable has a budget of over $200 million and has enjoyed a AAA bond rating for several years.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in civil or ocean engineering and be registered as a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. More than seven years of progressively responsible relevant experience in planning, design, and construction for broad spectrum of large complex construction projects. A minimum of three years supervisory experience is also required.
