The Assistant Town Planner /Zoning Compliance Officer shall work closely with the Town Planner & Economic Development Coordinator. They will be first point of contact for all planning and zoning related concerns, to complete, perform, and carry out in a satisfactory manner.  This will be done while acting in a manner deemed reasonable by planning professionals in Massachusetts and under the ethical guidelines dictated by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), services as directed by the Town Administrator.

This position serves as staff support to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals; reviews all land use applications for compliance, as well as ensures plans are developed as approved in cooperation with applicable departments; supports the enforcement of the zoning bylaws to remediate violations and respond to resident concerns, educates and assists the public in understanding content and purpose of the zoning bylaws, supports all long-range planning initiatives; and coordinates the updates and implementation of the town’s Master Plan. This position, who reports to the Town Administrator, provides technical advice to citizens and support to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and seeks and secures grants to support planning-related activities.  The ideal candidate should be ready for a multi-faceted position with growth potential.

The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in regional, urban, community planning, public administration, engineering, environmental science, or a related field. A minimum three years of progressively responsible experience is preferred.
