The Town of Wrentham is seeking a qualified Assistant Treasurer/Collector to assist the Town Treasurer Collector with the statutory duties and responsibilities of the department.  This includes maintenance of accounts and other financial records, collection of all taxes and other receivables due to the Town, disbursing municipal funds and accounting for receipts and expenditures. Appointed by the Town Administrator and under the administrative direction of the Treasurer/Collector, the Assistant Treasurer/Collector performs the duties and responsibilities in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, town policies, bylaws, Massachusetts Department of Revenue regulations and federal law.

Duties include but are not limited to:  Responsible for the daily operation of the office; overseeing all functions and providing guidance to staff; daily proofs and reconciles staff work. Responsibility for all activity in the Deputy Collector account from posting to reconciliation. Works with taxpayers to resolve the more difficult and complex issues related to payments and penalties; answers inquiries from taxpayers; performs research, as required, to resolve problems; updates records, as needed.  Transfers monies between bank accounts to cover disbursements of warrants. Receives and reconciles monies from all departments and posts to General Ledger, using SoftRight software. Responds to requests for information from taxpayers, government officials, bank officers and others on an as-needed basis. Acts as informational contact person for questions regarding various departmental operations, policies, and programs. Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer/Collector in his or her absence. All other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:   Associate’s Degree in accounting or related field; three years of related municipal accounting and computer experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required to be certified within 3 years by Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association if not currently certified.  Must be bondable. Highly proficient in Excel.

 Salary:  Full-time, 35 hour, benefit eligible, union, non-exempt position. Salary range: $27.93–$34.12 per hour.
