Job Description

The town of Bourne seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time Building Commissioner position. The Commissioner provides professional, technical and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the state Building Code, town Zoning By-Laws, and other applicable codes and regulations relating to building construction and design. The employee performs highly responsible duties of a technical nature requiring considerable judgement in the application, interpretation and enforcement of all building codes, floodplain regulations, handicap accessibility codes, zoning ordinances, weights and measures rules and regulations and various other federal, State and local laws and regulations. Work includes overseeing the daily operation of the inspections department, performing field inspections to ensure code and regulation compliance, maintaining records and preparing reports, and supervising staff. Employee is required to perform all related duties.
Qualifications and Education
Must comply with certification Regulations of MGL Ch. 143 § 3 & 780 CMR as adopted & amended.
Bachelor’s degree in building construction or design or five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a CSL (unrestricted), State Certification as Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner, and a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Salary
Starting salary: $52.52 – $54.91/hour.
