Building Commissioner

Job Description

The city of Newburyport is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and service-oriented Building Commissioner to lead the city’s Building department. This leadership position is responsible for administering and enforcing the Massachusetts State Building Code, and related state and local regulations while ensuring the safe construction, occupancy, and maintenance of buildings throughout the community.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent combination of education and extensive experience in building construction, design, or related construction trades.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience supervising building construction or design.
• Certification as a Massachusetts Local Building Inspector is required.
• Building Inspector/Commissioner certification is preferred or the ability to obtain certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license

Position is within the Teamsters Department Head union.
