The Building Commissioner performs highly responsible work under the general administrative supervision of the Mayor and in accordance with applicable provisions of the MGL, local charter and ordinances. Duties include examining building plans to ensure compliance with Massachusetts building codes, AAB and other related laws, regulations and standards; direct supervision of department staff and effective management of job assignments, personnel and completion of duties and tasks.

Note: The city’s zoning enforcement functions are performed in the Planning Department by the Zoning Enforcement Officer.  Zoning Enforcement is not a job duty for this position.

This is a full-time, 35 hour per week position – Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to Noon. The position is in the Teamsters Union Local 170 – Department Head Union Contract. Salary to $93,000 including generous stipends. Excellent benefits and paid time off per union contract.
