Job Description

The town of Hubbardston is seeking a qualified Building Commissioner/Inspector of Buildings to administer and enforce the Massachusetts State Building Code and local zoning bylaws. This position is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing permits, conducting inspections, documenting violations, preparing enforcement orders, and serving as the town’s Zoning Enforcement Officer. The Commissioner works closely with the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Fire Department, and other municipal departments to ensure safe and compliant development throughout the community.

Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, inspection procedures, and relevant construction practices. The town welcomes applicants who are fully certified, as well as those eligible to obtain Massachusetts Building Commissioner certification within required timeframes. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as the role involves frequent interaction with homeowners, contractors, design professionals, and the general public.

This position is structured as a fractional-service role focused on management, inspections, and code oversight. The schedule offers flexibility and is suited for an experienced professional seeking part-time municipal work or regional service opportunities.

Compensation: Approximately $50,000 DOQ for fractional service and management.
