The city of Fitchburg is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of Building Commissioner/Zoning Enforcement Officer. Under the supervision of the Mayor of Fitchburg, the Building Commissioner/Zoning Enforcement Officer acts as the administrative chief responsible to administer and enforce the state building code (780CMR) and requirements of the State Architectural Access Board (Gi21CMR). General responsibilities are to manage and supervise the Building Department staff, prepare and manage departmental budgets, perform site visits, and examine/approve plans for new buildings or existing structures. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design or in the alternative a four-year undergraduate degree in a field related to building construction or design or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability, as well extensive expertise in building construction, fire prevention, lighting, ventilation, safe egress, building materials or equipment, and advanced knowledge of state and local code requirements. The salary range for this position is $87,204-$139,932/yr.
