The town of Easton is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of full-time Chief Assessor. The Chief Assessor performs complex technical and professional work relating to the planning and management of the Assessing Department and in the appraisal of town-wide property in accordance with state and local statutes.

Duties include, but are not limited to: reviews assessments of all real and personal property on an annual basis, testing for equity and uniformity; changes valuation program as necessary to maintain equity and uniformity; measures, lists and enters data on all new building permits and new businesses; reviews all overvaluation applications by making personal inspections of the property; making recommendations to the Board of Assessors accordingly; supervises departmental staff; prepares annual operating budget and oversees expenditures; prepares warrant articles as necessary for revaluation; prepares assessments and recommendation for annual tax classification hearing. The Chief Assessor is a key member of the town’s financial leadership team and supports the Finance Director and town administration in the thoughtful planning of the town’s annual and long-term fiscal health.

Recommended minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; minimum of five years of valuation and administrative experience in an Assessor’s Office; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Accredited Assessor designation preferred. The successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and provide proof of an acceptable driving record from the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

This is a salaried union position with excellent pay, benefits and municipal pension system. Step 1 is $100,108 annually; anticipated hiring range is $100,108-$114,991 depending on qualifications.
