The city of Amesbury (17,500), seeks seasoned public sector finance manager to serve as the city’s next CFO. With a strong Mayor/Council form of government, the CFO serves as the de facto Chief Administrative Officer, reporting to a ‘strong’ Mayor. The CFO serves as the City Accountant and is expected to have a hands-on role while coordinating and overseeing the Assessors, Finance and Administration, and Treasurer/Collectors. The Assistant City Accountant, Procurement and Liability Manager, and part-time financial analyst report directly to the CFO.
A Standard and Poor’s bond rating of AA, FY27 operating budget just over $93M, with approximately $40M of that attributed to schools. The city also has Water and Sewer enterprise funds.
Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and seven-plus years of progressively responsible public management experience related to finance and administrative functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Salary range to $160,000 plus $4,500 stipend for service on the Retirement Board; starting salary DOQ/E. EOE.
