The town of West Newbury, MA, is seeking a progressive, community-oriented Police Chief to lead a department of full-time and reserve Police officers and the Dispatch Department. The Police Department received accreditation by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission in October 2018.
The Chief of Police is appointed by a three-member Board of Selectmen, and serves as the chief administrative officer of the Police and Dispatch departments and exercises departmental authority in all matters of policy, operations and discipline as authorized under Mass. Gen. Laws Ch. 41, Sec. 97A (the “Strong Chief Act”). A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field is required. Master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or a related field preferred.
Salary range is $115,000 to $131,000 based on experience, plus benefits.
