Claremont NH, (pop. 13,500), is seeking an innovative, passionate community leader to serve as its next City Manager. Located in the Lake Sunapee Region and Upper Connecticut River Valley, Claremont is a historic community with quintessential New England charm. The economic and professional development of Claremont will be a top priority for the new Manager. Claremont has many enviable community, cultural and natural assets including a rich heritage of textile and machining buildings that are being transformed by adaptive re-use. Claremont boasts a downtown Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district and an Industrial Park, neither of which are yet fully occupied. Coupled with the city being situated near Interstates 91 and 89, these two assets are ready to be developed by a City Manager who has excellent community visioning and economic development skills. The city’s other assets include a hospital, a community college, new community center, several parks and an Opera House, to just name a few. Claremont is a short drive from the medical and educational assets of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth College and is 60 miles from the state capital of Concord.
With a Council/City Manager form of government, the City Manager serves as the CEO/CAO of the city, reports directly to a nine member city council, and oversees an operating budget of about $25 million and 116 full-time employees. Master’s degree in public administration or related field is preferred, seven or more years of demonstrated leadership in municipal government or private organizations, and experience in progressively responsible management and administrative capacities, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant management experience. Salary up to $135,000, the starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Claremont offers a very competitive benefits package.
