Job Description

The town of Lunenburg is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Conservation Agent to support the Conservation Commission in administering the Wetlands Protection Act, local wetlands bylaws, and the management and protection of conservation land. This role provides the opportunity to actively preserve Lunenburg’s natural resources while guiding sustainable land use in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and process permit applications under the Wetlands Protection Act and local bylaws
  • Conduct independent field inspections and site visits
  • Provide research, technical guidance, and recommendations to the Conservation Commission
  • Prepare agendas, reports, decisions, and meeting materials
  • Attend evening meetings (typically twice per month)

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, wetlands biology, or related field; two years’ experience in associated field; experience in implementing, administering, and enforcing the Wetlands and River Protection Act highly preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. MACC Fundamentals for Conservation certification required or in process.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Must have own vehicle to use for town business.

Pay range: $37.68–$46.34/hr, plus comprehensive benefits. Additional recruitment incentives may be available.
