The Town of Watertown seeks an individual who will be responsible to perform inspections to ensure the quality of work and materials used in a variety of public works infrastructure projects including construction, repair, maintenance or alteration. Assists with the issuing of permit, coordination with private utility companies, and electronic tracking and documentation of work. Ensures conformance with Town standards, specifications and safety standards. Maintains records and prepares reports on projects inspected. Working under the general direction of the Superintendent of Public Works and Town Engineer, the position will perform responsible functions of a complex and technical nature involving the exercise of considerable judgement in the application and interpretation of construction standards and practices and other regulations. Interpret and apply pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations. Other duties as required. Required Minimum Qualifications: Two-year degree in engineering or construction technology; and a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience with construction inspection in areas of public works, heavy underground utility construction, infrastructure design, or municipal engineering. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the public and employees. Knowledge of AutoCAD and ArcGIS required. Additional Requirements: Must possess valid Massachusetts Driver’s license and have a good driving record. STARTING RANGE: DQE, plus excellent benefits.
