The town of Stoneham (Pop. 22,000), a desirable and welcoming community, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Council on Aging Director. The COA Director under the administrative direction of the Town Administrator and policy direction of the Council of Aging Board of Directors, provides programs and services to the town’s senior population.  Stoneham is an equal opportunity employer. The Council on Aging Director in accordance with state, municipal and department policies, will manage all programs and services offered to the senior citizens of the town; including assessing community needs for services to the elderly; developing short and long-range department plans and objectives to respond to identified needs.  The COA Director performs administrative, supervisory and social service work in developing and implementing the programs. Researches for and writes grant applications and other revenue resources.  Prepares and administers the annual budget, grants and annual report.  Manages the Senior Center Facility, supervising staff and volunteers. Interacts with senior citizens, elder affairs organizations, state and local officials, community leaders and citizens groups, and other town boards and departments. This is a full-time union position within the Stoneham Classified Employees Association with a starting salary range of $63,434.35- $66.635.06.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), concentration in elder services, social work, human services, sociology, psychology, or related field, five to seven years of professional experience in programs serving and working directly with the elderly; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of supervisory experience required. Knowledge of federal, state, and regional services and local resources available to senior citizens. Grant writing and management experience.
