Job Description

The town of Nahant is seeking a Director for the Council on Aging. This is a part-time position consisting of 19 hours a week, primarily 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Director of the COA is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Senior Center and its programs. The Director reports to the Town Administrator and works under the administrative direction of a nine-member Board. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily lunch and exercise programs, as well as organizing informational discussions and day trips.
  • Supervising assistants, bus drivers, and volunteers, as well as coordinating with contract exercise instructors.
  • Publishing a monthly newsletter that includes events, resources, and information for the town’s senior population.
  • Attending all COA Board meetings and working collaboratively with the Board to establish policies, strategic plans, and objectives.
  • Preparing and managing an annual budget, as well as providing the COA Board with monthly reports that evaluate programs and services.
  • Preparing, filing and maintaining all financial and administrative records as may be required.

Recommended minimum requirements are a bachelor’s degree in social work, geronotology, human services, or closely related degree; excellent verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Salary range is $27,850 – $34,000 annually.
