The town of Stoneham is a residential suburban community located at the intersection of I-93 and I-95 less than 10 miles to the city of Boston. Stoneham currently is seeking to fill the full-time position of Deputy Director of Public Works. This position is regarded as a highly responsible leadership position reporting to the Director of Public Works.
The Deputy Director is a union management position that performs administrative, supervisory, planning, directing, controlling and monitoring the policies, priorities and work programs for the Department of Public Works including administration, engineering, highway, town, water, sewer, forestry, parks, cemetery, solid waste and recycling, and vehicle maintenance; all other related work, as required.
The Deputy Director is responsible for staffing, scheduling, motivating, and supervising all activities and training including safety, for all personnel within the divisions listed above. Coordinates departmental operations which includes emergency response to weather events, special events, and other projects as assigned. Other responsibilities include budget control, payroll oversight, bidding, contract preparation, and adherence to purchasing procedures.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public works management; technical and practical knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques related relative to public works projects and issues is necessary. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with contractors, vendors, employees town officials and departments as well as general public. Stoneham offers generous benefit package in addition to a competitive salary. Hiring range $89,789.22 – $101,559.28, is commensurate with education and experience. Open until filled.
