The city of Somerville is in search of a Deputy Director of HHS – Public Health.
The Deputy Director of Health and Human Services – Public Health (DD-PH) serves as the city’s senior operational and strategic leader for public health. The role oversees essential public health services, prevention programs, and population health initiatives that promote community well-being and advance health equity. The DD-PH provides executive leadership across five divisions: Prevention Services; Public Health Nursing; Food Access and Healthy Communities; Community Health Workers; and the Public Health Excellence (PHE) Shared Services Program.
In this capacity, the DD-PH strengthens the City’s public health infrastructure by identifying system gaps, leading cross-sector and multi-disciplinary initiatives, and designing evidence-based policies and programs. The role ensures high-quality, compliant service delivery while driving continuous improvement and operational effectiveness. As a key member of the Health and Human Services Senior Management team, the DD-PH collaborates closely with HHS leadership and citywide and regional partners to align strategies, streamline operations, and build sustainable public health capacity that meets current and emerging community needs. Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
Hours: Full-time
Salary: $120,000 annualized, plus benefits
