DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH

The Quabbin Health District, a MGL Chapter 111, section 27A District comprised of the towns of Belchertown, Ware and Pelham is currently accepting applications for a full-time benefit eligible Director of Public Health.

Position Overview:

Professional, administrative, technical, and inspection work in planning, managing, and promoting the Quabbin Health District’s public health program and in enforcing public health, sanitation and environmental laws and regulations; provides leadership guidance regarding health issues for the Quabbin Health District which is a public agency serving the public health needs of the residents of Belchertown, Ware and Pelham, Massachusetts. The incumbent has overall responsibility for the ongoing administration of the Quabbin Health District, including all financial and legal components of the District; performs all other related work as required including supervision of staff. Exercises independent judgment and initiative in the planning, administration and execution of public health services, in the interpretation and application of laws, regulations and procedures, and in the direction of personnel. Performs a variety of responsible functions in accordance with state statutes and local regulations.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and administration of public health. Extensive knowledge of the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations relative to environmental and public health. Comprehensive knowledge of the state codes. Knowledge of community needs assessment, resources and organizations related to public health. Thorough knowledge of approved methods and equipment used in handling food and milk. Thorough knowledge of current inspection and disease control and prevention procedures. Competency in general government operations such as finance, human resources, procurement and legal processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in public health or related field (preferred) with three to five of experience; or bachelor’s of science in public health or equivalent with five or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

MA Board of Registration – Registered Sanitarian or eligible to sit for Board Exam currently

MA Soil Evaluator DEP

Additional Preferences: MA Board of Registration – Certified Health Officer, Lead Inspector or Determinator DPH, ServSafe Certification, Certified Pool Operator, System Inspector Certification (if not an RS)

Salary Range- Benefits:

The Quabbin Health District offers a generous benefit package with a step compensation plan, the range for this position between $70,000 to $98,917. Starting salary range is between $72,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience.
