The town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH.
Professional, supervisory, administrative, technical and inspection work in planning and managing the town’s public health programs and in enforcing public health laws and regulations; all other related work, as required. Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Inspectional Services, and in coordination with the Board of Health; works in accordance with applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and local bylaws. Enforces state and local public health laws, rules and regulations for the town; manages a comprehensive public health program for the town. Manages a comprehensive public health program for the town. Prepares grants for various projects related to safety and health. Reviews Title V system inspections. Inspects individual sewage disposal systems. Investigates private water supplies. Establishes regulations pertaining to the collection and removal of garbage, rubbish and other offensive substances. Initiates investigations and preventative measures for communicable diseases. Incident Commander for the Infectious Disease Control Program.
Responsible for the maintenance of public health records, prepares monthly and annual reports; processes numerous types of reports of diseases; attends all regular and special meetings of the board and prepares and recommends regulations for their adoption. Functions as the Burial Agent for the town. Develops department budget.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental science, or related field, master’s degree preferred; five years of experience in a position in a public health program; progressive supervisory experience preferably in a municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements: State registration as a Registered Sanitarian, Registration with the Board of Certification of Health Officers of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, DEP approved Soil Evaluator and state-approved System Inspector, Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license
