Director of Public Works

Job Description

The town of Harwich is seeking an experienced Director of Public Works to lead the Department of Public Works and oversee municipal infrastructure, operations, personnel, budgets, capital projects, and public services.

Responsibilities include oversight of roads, sidewalks, storm drainage, parks, beaches, cemeteries, solid waste and recycling, municipal facilities, fleet operations, and emergency operations. The Director manages departmental budgets and capital projects, procurement and contracts, grants, personnel, and labor relations, and serves as the town’s Tree Warden.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 5–7 years of related experience required. Bachelor’s degree in public administration, civil engineering, or related field preferred. Strong leadership, communication, budgeting, and municipal public works experience required. Class D driver’s license required; CDL Class B and applicable licenses preferred.

Salary: $180,000 +/- DOQ, plus competitive benefits.
