Director of Social Services
City of Brockton

  • Seek evidence-based practices to influence policy and programs to foster healthy living for city residents. Identify programing and funding options to develop new and support existing programming that aligns with the goals of the city and the community.
  • Identify grant opportunities and assist with application preparation. Work with public officials and agencies to ensure quality programming and funding in the city.
  • Oversee and manage service grants received by the Mayor’s office.
  • Assist constituents in securing proper social services. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed.
  • Serve as the Mayor’s representative at meetings and events related to social and human services, including issues related to substance abuse, homelessness, hunger, youth, violence prevention, gang intervention, mental health, education, prostitution, immigration, and veteran services. Serve as the Mayor’s liaison to the city’s drug prevention and assisted recovery programs, including the Champion Plan.
  • Plan, design and manage city programs, including the Mayor’s Youth Summit, Mayor’s Youth Council, Brockton After Dark, Summer Parks program, and temporary employment programs. Create, manage and oversee new programs as directed by the Mayor.


Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in human services, social work, public administration, or a related discipline. Preferred experience includes experience coordinating and convening community coalitions, experience working with diverse community populations, experience facilitating groups and meetings, ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and municipalities that have different needs and levels of readiness, experience with grant reporting and management.

Additional Requirements: Must successfully complete and pass a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check.
