Equipment Operator – Public Utilities

Job Description

The city of Watertown seeks qualified candidates for two vacant Equipment Operator (EO) positions in the Public Utilities Division with the Department of Public Works. The Public Utilities division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city’s water, sewer and storm drainage systems, in addition to ensuring that the city’s Water Distribution system provides a high-quality and reliable supply.

The EO works as part of a crew to repair leaks and main breaks, address sewerage backups, and assist in projects to repair and maintain hydrants, water mains, and other water distribution and sewer system structures throughout the city. This is a labor-intensive position that requires team work and a firm commitment to ensuring workplace safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED, a Commercial Driver’s License Class B with airbrakes endorsement, and a clean driving record are all required. The availability of working overtime shifts to meet the operational and emergency needs of the department is critical.

TERMS/HOURS: This is a union position with a 40-hour work week. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SALARY: The annual salary is $68,957 or $33.02 per hour (Grade 4-Step 1). Applicants who do not possess their CDL must begin at the Grade 1-Step 1 rate of $26.77. Upon receiving your CDL, you will go to the Grade 4 rate listed above.
