Facilities Director – Town of Palmer

Position Purpose – The Facilities Director plans, organizes, and directs all aspects of the Municipal building operations in accordance with safety and technical requirements and all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations for all routine, preventive and extraordinary maintenance and upkeep of all municipal buildings.

Supervision – Works under the general supervision of the Town Manager or designee.

Work Environment- Administrative work is performed under typical office conditions. Inspection and facility work is conducted in the field, working under variable weather conditions and hazardous conditions associated with indoor and outdoor sites, including working with electricity. Operates automobile and uses hand tools when necessary. Has daily contact with town departments, boards and committees and contractors. Occasionally required to work outside of normal business hours.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications – Bachelor’s degree in facilities/project management or related field. Five years of experience in municipal or commercial building management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements – Valid Massachusetts state driver’s license

Knowledge, Ability and Skill – KNOWLEDGE:  Expert knowledge of the statutes, bylaws, regulations, codes, policies, and procedures relevant to the operation. Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques relative to building construction, maintenance, and care. Thorough knowledge of standard requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light ventilation, and safe egress as well as other equipment and materials essential for the safety comfort and convenience of the occupants of a building or structure.

Physical Requirements – Requires frequent moderate to strenuous physical effort while performing duties; must be able to access all areas of municipal facilities; Requires use of hands and fingers to handle/operate tools and equipment and reach with hands and arms. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, carryings, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, occasionally may require lifting/moving up to 60 lbs. Vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges; requires ability to read documents and use a computer.

Hours & Compensation- Full-time – $65,000 to $80,000 per year
