The town of Eastham is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking Finance Director (CFO) to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Finance Director leads financial strategy, policy development, and oversight of all municipal financial operations, including accounting, assessing, and treasury/collections. This role combines strategic leadership, operational management, and public communication, with significant influence on Town-wide decision-making.

Eastham is a financially stable, well-managed Cape Cod community known for strong budgeting practices, long-range planning, and clear communication with residents and stakeholders. The Finance Director will work closely with an experienced Town Manager and former long-tenured Finance Director, providing a rare opportunity for mentorship, collaboration, and professional growth.

The town is approaching this recruitment with flexibility and may tailor responsibilities based on a candidate’s experience and interests. For highly qualified candidates, there may be an opportunity to combine this role with the currently open Assistant Town Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the Town Manager, Select Board, and Finance Committee on financial matters
  • Lead operating and capital budget development, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Oversee financial operations and strengthen internal controls and policies
  • Communicate financial information clearly to boards, committees, and the public
  • Support strategic initiatives and financial sustainability efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, public administration, or related field
  • Five to seven years of municipal or governmental finance experience, including supervision
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Salary: $128,273–$189,201 (anticipated hiring range ~$150,000) + comprehensive benefits
