The town of Wilton, NH is hiring a Finance Officer to manage its day-to-day financial operations. This is a full-time, highly responsible role for someone who enjoys precise, meaningful work and wants to see the direct impact of good financial stewardship on a small, supportive New England community. You’ll work closely with the Town Administrator, Select Board, and Department Heads to keep Wilton’s finances accurate, transparent, and compliant, in both daily operations and on the town’s numerous special projects.
General Duty Summary
• Manage day-to-day financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable using the modern MTS Financial Accounting Software System
•Reconcile cash receipts and bank accounts, and prepare deposits
•Prepare monthly revenue and expenditure reports for the Select Board
•Partner with the Town Administrator, Select Board, and Department Heads to build and manage the annual Town budget
•Maintain a budget-to-actual accounting system and perform ongoing budget analysis
•Meet all state (NH Department of Revenue) and federal financial reporting requirements, including grant reporting
•Coordinate the town’s annual independent audit and prepare supporting documentation
•Coordinate with additional third-party accounting partners (local utility commissions) and back-up accounting help
•Track capital assets and support insurance, bonding, and benefits administration
Sought Credentials and Characteristics
•A working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GASB standards, and applicable Federal and State regulations
•Experience with integrated computer accounting systems and general ledger maintenance
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office suites (Excel and Word in particular) and ability to work with modern financial software.
•Strong judgment, discretion, and attention to detail; you’ll be trusted with confidential financial and personnel information
