The town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of Fire Apparatus Mechanic, for the Fire Department.
Skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Fire Department apparatus and equipment; all other related work as required. Works under the administrative direction of the Chief Master Mechanic. Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, diagnoses, and maintains all types of Fire Department vehicles, equipment, and apparatus such as aerial ladder trucks, hose wagons, pumpers, rescue trucks, cars and other firefighting equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, lubricates equipment, changes oil and grease, replaces fuel pumps and filters, generators, hose lines and adjusts valves and breaks. Assists the Chief Master Mechanic in the instruction and training of department staff in the correct operation and maintenance of fire vehicles and equipment; assists in driver training, the use of heavy rescue tools and related equipment. High school graduate with advanced vocational or technical training in automotive repair and mechanics; five years’ experience as a mechanic engaged in a variety of automotive and heavy equipment; experience in repairing and maintaining hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and diesel vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s license with air brake endorsement is required. Must obtain and maintain a Massachusetts Commercial Inspection License. Must obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Certification (EVT) at a minimum of an F2 level.
