The town of Plymouth seeks qualified applicants for the position of Fire Apparatus Mechanic for the Plymouth Fire Department.

Skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Fire Department apparatus and equipment; all other related work as required. Works under the administrative direction of the Chief Master Mechanic. Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, diagnoses, and maintains all types of Fire Department vehicles, equipment, and apparatus, such as aerial ladder trucks, hose wagons, pumpers, rescue trucks, cars and other firefighting equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, lubricates equipment, changes oil and grease, replaces fuel pumps and filters, generators, hose lines and adjusts valves and breaks. Assists the Chief Master Mechanic in the instruction and training of department staff in the correct operation and maintenance of fire vehicles and equipment; assists in driver training, the use of heavy rescue tools and related equipment. High school graduate, plus advanced vocational or technical training in automotive repair and mechanics; five years of experience as a mechanic engaged in a variety of automotive and heavy equipment; experience in repairing and maintaining hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and diesel vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Massachusetts Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement is required. Massachusetts commercial inspection license preferred. Must obtain and maintain at a minimum emergency vehicle certification (EVT) at F2 level, the cost of obtaining the EVT F2 will be reimbursed by the town. Additional compensation amounting to $100 per month will be available for each higher level certification (F3, F4, F4A, etc.).
