The town of Pepperell (pop. 11,073) is conducting a search for qualified candidates for the position of Fire Chief (non-civil service) under MGL c. 48 s. 42. The Chief works under the policy direction of the Board of Selectmen, reporting to the Town Administrator as an agent of the Board of Selectmen, and manages a total department budget of approximately $850,000 (FY19 Fire/EMS plus fringe and capital). The Fire Chief supervises five full-time Firefighter/Paramedics, approximately 40 per-diem and call firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, and a part-time secretary.
The recommended qualifications are: bachelor’s degree in fire science or related field; and a minimum of 10 years of experience in a fire service area, including five years of increasingly responsible command experience in firefighting and EMS, and experience with on-call or combination fire departments; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum requirements; Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, Firefighter I and II or equivalent, Emergency Medical Technician certification, certification in CPR, Massachusetts Fire Chief Credential (FCC) or ability to obtain within one year of signed contract, ICS-100, 200, 300, 400 and IS-700 certification, any other licenses or certifications required by Massachusetts state law and residency within 15 miles of Pepperell border (within one year of signed contract). Salary range of $85,000-$100,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Email cover letter, resume and three references to Town Administrator at email@example.com.
