The city of Newburyport is seeking a full-time Police Dispatcher. This position will receive police and other emergency service requests, obtain service/incident information requirements, determine the appropriate response based upon standard operating and other procedures, dispatch appropriate units and provide necessary information and communication support services to responding units and caller as required. The position also provides administrative and information support services to responsible police department personnel and callers. The position maintains and improves upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.
Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED plus Dispatcher Certification from the Association of Police Communication Officials (APCO) within one year of date of appointment. Or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Securing this position is dependent on the results of a background investigation.
This position is scheduled for a 40 hour work week, four days on, two days off rotating eight-hour shifts – nights and weekends. This is a union position, starting pay at $20.19 per AFSCME union contract.
